As summer approaches, adjusting your habits just a little can have a big impact. Here are four simple tips for feeling your beach-ready best.
Eliminate Artificial Sweeteners
Deflate your belly by eliminating artificial sweeteners. Because their chemicals don’t get absorbed in the small intestine, artificial sweeteners can cause gas. (Beware of broccoli, cabbage and beans poolside, too – they can also cause temporary belly expansion.)
Get the right size suit
The right bathing suit can flatter the tummy, chest and butt areas, but when it comes to arms, you’re on your own. Luckily, just a few weeks of training can get you toned up. One trick to do while driving, courtesy of Shape: Put your palms on the steering wheel at 3 and 9 and press them inward. Then put your hands inside the wheel and press outward. Hold the squeezes for 10-20 seconds, and repeat (as traffic attention allows).
More than just flip flops
Flip flops are fab, but make sure you have other sandal options before the hot weather hits. Wearing flip flops too much can cause problems like athlete’s foot, back pain, fallen arches and bone stress. Mix it up with styles that have arch support.
Exfoliate often
Sunscreen and self-tanners leave residue you want sloughed off, but even if you’re not in tanning mode yet, exfoliating helps skin absorb your all-important moisturizing products.
